Sheldon Museum of Art is committed to offering visitors interesting, enjoyable events and programs that explore great American art and the creative process.

Jean Charlot's Rest and Work, a color lithograph from 1941, is among the artworks that will be on view in Agents of Change: The Mexican Muralists and the New Deal in America, an exhibition that opens September 29, 2009.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Decorations in Great Hall
October 20, 2009 thru November 15, 2009 -- 08:00 AM

Dia de los Muertos is a centuries-old spiritual tradition celebrating the continuity of life by honoring the dead on their return to earth for one day. The Great Hall will be elaborately decorated for the art and cultural celebration with papier-mâché sculptures and papel picados hanging from the windows and a traditional ofrenda (altar) will offer visitors opportunities to honor loved ones.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Masquerade Ball
October 29, 2009 -- 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, the Sheldon hosts a masquerade ball/pre-auction for adults, with a mariachi. This fundraiser event kicks off the Dia de los Muertos silent auction, which runs through Friday, Nov 6. Pre-purchase ticket information will be made available soon.

In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, the Sheldon hosts a free Family Day event with mariachi, folklore dancers, art-making activities for the kids, appetizers, and much more.
