Wanda Ewing, an assistant professor of art and art history at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, presents a series of covers from a fictional magazine Bougie. Created by linoleum cuts and vinyl lettering on acetate, her covers explore beauty and glamour and the mixed messages they send in the popular culture. Her sophisticated designs and images on the covers are surrounded by humorous article headlines, such as “ ‘The hotel is only 3 stars!’ the true story of one woman’s nightmare” and “Don’t leave ‘em hanging, the importance of the pedicure.”
Ewing will offer a slide presentation of her work during an artist's talk at the opening reception for the exhibition on Tuesday, August 28, from 5-7 p.m.
