The Pink Pinafore1926Oil on canvas24 × 20H-41.1930University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Anna R. and Frank M. Hall Charitable TrustThe Pink Pinafore by Robert Henri Robert HenriAlthough born in Cincinnati, Robert Henri spent his formative childhood years in Cozad, a town in south-central Nebraska that his family founded in 1873. Among his many professional accolades include leading the Ashcan School of realist artists in the early 20th century and teaching a number of students at the New York School of Art who went on to greatness themselves, including George Bellows, Edward Hopper, and Joseph Stella. Like Thomas Eakins, Henri bridged impressionism and realism. This canvas is indicative of his technique and the greater transformation of artistic styles in the early 20th century.
